An organisations headcount can be calculated in one of two ways. The total number of individuals employed can be counted or by totalling the number of contractual hours issued in a period and dividing this by the organisations full time hours for the period; which calculates the FTE headcount. Full time equivalence (FTE) is used to normalise the working hours an organisation has available; calculating the number of full-time employees that would be required to perform the work.
The calculator below calculates the organisations headcount based on its full-time hours. This will then output the number of full-time employees this would represent as well as the proportion of working hours which are taken up by part time staff.
The following links provide additional information about FTE. The links are to pages on websites over which we have no control. This information is provided for reference only.
