The organisation is able to demonstrate its compliance with statutory obligations and also in the event of employee disputes. The organisation is also able to use the data to monitor the performance of its absence management process, to set future goals and to project likely future performance.
An absence record will contain at minimum the type of absence, the dates over which the absence ran and the amount of working time lost within the period. For different type of absence (planned and unplanned) it is beneficial to record more data points. In the case of unplanned absence, the reason for the absence is an example of the type of data that should also be recorded.
