An accrual refers to something which increases over time; interest on a loan is an example of an accrual. Within HR management accrual is most often considered within absence management. An employee may accrue their paid leave entitlement based on the hours they work. This is particularly true where a worker is on a zero hours contract where it is not possible to know in advance how many hours will be worked.
Human resource management systems and time and attendance systems are able to calculate accrued leave entitlements. Time and attendance systems are able to do this by calculating an entitlement based on actual hours registered by the employee.
