A bank holiday is a public holiday in the UK. The dates for some bank holiday (Easter) can vary year to year.
Employees can be required to work on bank holidays or leave on bank holidays may be enforced. Bank holidays may form part of an employee’s statutory leave entitlement or may be taken in addition to this.
For part time workers special consideration should be given to them so they receive a similar entitlement to their full-time colleagues. Since most bank holidays fall on Mondays and Fridays a work pattern that includes only one (or none) of these days will not benefit from all the bank holidays.
