Basic Rate

This can refer to the normal rate of pay an employee would expect to received (as opposed to an overtime rate).

This can also refer to the lowest level of income tax paid in the UK where multiple tax bands exist. Everyone earning over a threshold amount will pay the basic rate but only those earning above the next threshold will pay more.
