Course

Training courses can take on a variety of formats within an organisation and may range from a brief informal discussion of a topic up to an externally assessed qualification. An individual course may form part of a larger piece of training made up of multiple courses. Once an employee has completed a training course, they may not need to repeat it. Alternatively, a course may periodically expire, this means that the employee may need to complete the same course again or a similar but briefer refresher module.

Training courses can be used by an organisation to promote strategic knowledge of a particular process or product. This may extend to the entire workforce or be limited to particular departments or teams.

Employees in some professions can be required to complete certain types or amounts of training per year as part of their continuing professional development. Some employers provide a training budget to employees who may choose which training to participate in, alternatively an employer may provide fixed opportunities for staff.
