This is an action taken against an employee as a result of their conduct or behaviour. A disciplinary process aims to resolve and correct issues allowing an employee to be retained if possible. In some cases, the process can lead to an employee’s dismissal.
Where possible an employer may offer an employee additional training or support, this is especially true where the issue relates to an employee’s capabilities. Handling the issue in this way allows the employer to show fairness and may also be cheaper than engaging in a recruitment process to replace the employee.
It is important that accurate records are made of disciplinary actions.
