Domain Name Server

A domain name server (DNS) holds records of domain names. An organisation can have its own domain name server which all its employees will use or external servers can be used. Domain name servers are used to translate a human readable address (e.g. www.personnelsoftware.co.uk) in to a machine friendly IP address.
