Employees can be issued with a set of credentials that identify them within the company. These may take a variety of forms, a printed card or a computer user account are standard methods a company may use.

As part of the recruitment process an applicant may be required to provide proof of identity to the company. Organisations have a legal duty to verify that individuals have a right to work.
