This means to apply something proportionally. In HR management a typical to pro rata leave entitlements for new starters or leavers. This means that the amount of leave they are assigned to proportional to the amount of time they have served within that leave year. This same approach is used to manage the entitlements of part time employee where their FTE is used to calculate the appropriate portion.
