SQL

Structured Query Language is a language used to interact with certain types of database servers. The language allows for data to be retrieved, updated and deleted from the database. It also allows for databases to be created and their structure specified and altered.

SQL is based around the mathematics of relational theory. It reproduces many elements of this theory but can be more relaxed for in order to be practical in real world scenarios.
