SSL

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. This is a protocol which computers can use to communicate which allows a layer of security to be added. Specifically, SSL has been superseded by TLS (transport layer security). In a technical setting SSL and TLS are distinct although more causally they are used interchangeably.
