Time off in Lieu

Time of in lieu (TOIL) allows an employee to exchange all or a portion of over time hours they have worked for paid time off (rather than additional salary).

This can be administered as part of a flexible working scheme. In most organisations some rules will be set out concerning how TOIL can be used and the amounts of overtime that is available in a period.
