Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) (TUPE) rules and regulations are intended to protect employees when a company (or part of it) is transferred to another company or when a service contract (such as a cleaning contract) is taken over by a different provider.
Under TUPE an employee’s job transfers to the new company with the same terms and conditions that they had before. There are exceptions to this, for example where the business is insolvent.
