A work pattern indicates to an employee how their contractual hours will be distributed over a given period of time. For office workers these are typical split over a five-day working week. Other workers may find their pattern is spread over a fortnight or a month.
A company will usually define a standard work pattern that is used as a reference point for all its staff. These reference hours can then be used to calculate the FTE of part time employee as well as for pro rating leave entitlements.
